Chapter News | July 2018

The AIA national convention, A'18 was last month. We also had a walking tour of the Former French Concession, and opened our call for entries for our first ever AIA Design Awards.

AIA Conference on Architecture 2018

AIA's annual conference took place from June 21st through 23rd in New York City. Alton Chow (President), Silas Chiow (Vice President), Jason (Treasurer), and Hugh Whitmore (Secretary) all attended to represent AIA Shanghai.
Three new leaders were elected at the conference:

  • L. Jane Frederick, FAIA, from AIA South Carolina, was elected 2019 First Vice President/2020 President-elect

  • Jason Winters, AIA, from AIA Chesapeake Bay/AIA Maryland, was elected 2019-2020 Secretary

  • Jessica Sheridan, AIA, from AIA New York Chapter/AIA New York, was elected an At-large Director

Crossroads in Singapore

AIA International Region Conference - Singapore  |  November 2-4, 2018

AIA International Region's conference, Convergence: Crossroads in Singapore, will be held in Singapore November 2nd though 4th. It will be an excellent chane to meet leadership form our chapter and firms. There will also be many opportunities to earn continuing education credits. Members and friends of the AIA International Region - including AIA Shanghai - are invited to attend this year's international conference.

Tour of Former French Concession and Interactive Tour Map

On June 9th, we had a walking tour of the Former French Cencession with Patrick Cranley of Shanghai Art Deco Society. 24 people attended the tour and visited many examples of Art Deco architecture, including the Cercle Sportif Francais, Grosvenor House, Cathay Cinema, and the Astrid Apartments.

Vikki Lew, AIA  RIBA  LEED AP  EDAC, has recently joined our comunity. She is als an International Editor of Connection, The Architecture and Design Journal of The Young Architects Forum.
