Jul. 17 | Green Hill Walking Tour By TJAD Original Design Studio
Join the American Institute of Architects for an exciting tour of the tobacco warehouse renovation project ‘Green Hill’ by TJAD Original Design Studio next Saturday, 17th July 2021. Located in Yangpu Riverside. Green Hill is an innovative urban revitalization project that forges the riverside landscape belt and opens the waterfront shoreline to its urban hinterland. The tobacco warehouse was a six-story reinforced concrete frame slab building that was built within about 30 years. Due to the lack of technological value and blocking the major road development on the building site, demolition seems to be the only solution to this concrete block.
The design team sees this as an opportunity to transform the building into a bridge connecting the city and the river bank through mass reduction; the seemingly irreconcilable contradiction between urban roads and buildings creates a series of municipal infrastructure, public green spaces, and public services to support the local community. The project opened up the barrier between the city and the riverside, realizing the sustainable use of existing buildings. It serves as one of the best responses to decrement development.
