In May of this year, China’s President, Xi Jinping, called for increased efforts to tackle environmental degradation. Xi stated, “China must speed up the construction of an ecological system to fundamentally improve the environment by 2035.”
AIA Shanghai, in concert with AHEC and Architecture 2030, has created a special program to discuss this challenge and to explore ideas on how we can play a role in meeting this obligation.
Join us as we tackle important environmental issues. Presentations by two speakers will be followed by a moderated discussion.
First speaker: Li Jiexin, (China Technical Lead of Architecture 2030) will share Architecture 2030’s founder and CEO Edward Mazria’s keynote speech at the Carbon Smart Building Day 2018. Mazria established a framework for the building industry to phaseout carbon emissions and defined commitments we must make to dramatically scale up our impact. In the presentation, the Architecture 2030 China team will also introduce their programs and initiatives.
Second speaker: Criswell Davis of the American Hardwood Export Council will present applications of hardwood as a sustainable material. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the physical properties, grades, and potential applications offered by different species of American Hardwoods, including the benefits of using and specifying wood in their architecture.
